Review, by emu: A (more or less) stand-alone Catwoman graphic novel about Selina Kyle and a plan to rob a train full of cash belonging to the mob. The art in this is classy. Nothing like modern comic art.. more reminiscent of the 60s with both the art style and the clothing. The art is what really drew me in to the book. The story is simple... Selina, who everyone thought was dead but obviously isn't, decides to team up with a black woman named Chantel who is a mob man's mistress but wants out. Chantel tells her about this mob train full of cash, and Selina, even with the knowledge that going against the mob is NOT a good idea, decides to go for it. On the way, she reunites with her old mentor and partner, Stark, and a guy named Jeff, as the job's too big for her alone. Also thrown into the mix is a private eye, Slam Bradley, who's been hired to track Selina down but develops a soft spot for her. Not to give too much away, despite all the time Selina and her team spend plotting, it really is a bad idea to go against the mob. This is more of a crime story than a Catwoman story (if that can be said) and is dark and gritty and action-packed. Recommended. |
