Li-chan's review: This is one of the many books that I've had to read for my AP English IV class. It's about a simple man named Candide who gets kicked out of the Baron of Thunder-ten-Tronckh's castle in Westphalia because he was caught kissing the Baroness Cunegonde and, to be blunt, many bad things happen to him as he travels around the world. Voltaire satirizes the monarchy, the corruption of the church, the army, war, and more..
I enjoyed it but I still couldn't help but think "oh please" on some parts. However, this was apparently what Voltaire wanted the reader to think, so I guess it works even if it is rather annoying. Also, I cannot help but think that many of the issues covered in the book can also be applied to the world today; we still have silly rich people, corruption in areas of the church, and war.
